Does your child's school have a KPGT liaison?

KPGT is seeking parents of identified GT students who want to assume an active role in gifted education and issues. We need at least two parents from each KISD campus to serve as liaisons between KPGT and their campuses. While serving as a campus liaison, the opportunities for learning about giftedness and gifted education are immense.

Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with KPGT!

We are an entirely volunteer organization and we often have many great ideas and not enough people to make them a reality. Here are some of the ways you can help make our great ideas happen:

KPGT Needs Parent Liaisons for every school in KISD:  Join our team of parents who share the special concerns and joys of being a GT parent.  Learn more here.

Mid-term KPGT Officer Vacancies and open Board Positions:  The Officers will be filling a mid-term officer vacancy (Secretary) and other Board positions based on the needs of our organization.  If you have interests and skills that would benefit KPGT, please consider nominating yourself.  The nomination form is here.  To read about our Officer responsibilities and qualifications, please click on the following corresponding links:    President, VP-Elementary Advisory Council, VP-Secondary Advisory Council, VP-Membership, Secretary, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor.  For more information about any role on the nomination form, please contact the current office-holder or Linda Kubena.

Super Saturday:  Super Saturday is a day all first through sixth grade GT students look forward to each spring! We need a Coordinator for Super Saturday 2011!  The Super Saturday Coordinator works with the help of KPGT board members and a Super Saturday committee, making this an event to remember each year. More volunteers are needed both before and on the day of the big event. We have well-documented tasks suited to every person and small steps begin now! Please contact Melissa Furman.

Campus Family Fun Nights: Our campus liaisons would appreciate your help in scheduling and organizing family nights. We have had very successful events and they often do not take much time, just initiative. GT family gatherings can happen at area fun-spots like bowling alleys, pottery and other crafting places or movie theaters. Smaller schools can partner with larger schools for better turnout. Please contact your campus KPGT liaison for more details.

Junior High and High School Events: we want to serve the junior high and high school students better. We would like to sponsor an event similar to Super Saturday or some other special event. This is new territory for us, so there is no right or wrong. We just need the right person to lead it. Please email Melissa Furman.

Newsletter Distribution: When our printed newsletters are finished we are always anxious to get them to the Challenge teachers for distribution. Sometimes we need help driving the newsletters to the schools. If you would be interested, please contact Sharon Mata.

Submit helpful links for our website: Do you know of some helpful web sites for GT that we have missed? Please email Susan Sweeney.

Video Taping and Video Editing Help: Do you have audio/visual technical skills or equipment? We are trying to record more of our events so our community can benefit from them at a later time. We need help editing the video we have and taping/editing for future events. Please email Susan Sweeney.

KPGT School Board Candidate Forum: If politics and elections are an interest of yours, we could use your help organizing our annual candidate forum. Please email Linda Kubena.

Teacher Appreciation and KPGT General Membership Meeting: We would like to do more to appreciate our teachers and recognize outstanding volunteers at our meeting in May. If hospitality and appreciation are your specialties, we need you! Please email Linda Kubena.

Do you have your own ideas of how you can help? Please email Linda Kubena.
